Running Resolutions

Running is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions each year. Whether you’re planning to join one of the Great Runs or get active, here are some suggestions from the team.

If you’re just getting started with running, be sure to start gently and set realistic goals. If you can only manage to run down the street and back, that’s a good start! As you get out more often, you can gradually increase your distance. Lamppost training is a great way to vary your training and keep you motivated.

Lamppost training is a training method that varies your output based on the lampposts you pass as you run outdoors. You may jog for five lampposts, sprint for three, and walk for two before returning to a jog. With this method, you choose how to train and challenge yourself. This is a very effective way of training, also known as Fartlek training, which is Swedish for “speed play.” It is a method used by athletes of all skill levels across many disciplines to improve cardiovascular endurance and performance.

Fitshop Suggests

If you’re looking for an edge to keep you on track, consider Fitshop’s line of heart rate monitors. These monitors can deliver live feedback to fitness apps on your mobile device. They also track your progress so that you can see the changes you’ve made over time. Our suggestion is the cardiostrong Chest Strap, which connects to most devices and wireless-capable fitness equipment.

For those dedicated to change, you may be considering a treadmill for your home. With your treadmill, you can save on gym fees and avoid the unpredictable British weather. Fitshop has a wide selection of treadmills available at any price point.

The BodyMax TM30, new to 2024, is a well-rounded, entry-level treadmill. It can reach speeds up to 16km/h, has 36 preset programs, and can be folded away for easy storage.

The middle of the road is the BodyMax TM70, which features a 2.5hp motor capable of up to 18km/h. The treadmill also features a 10.1” touchscreen, which can display your favourite entertainment apps, such as Netflix and YouTube. Like the TM30, the TM70 can fold away to save you space.

The Taurus T10.5 Pro Treadmill is Fitshop’s premium model treadmill. It features a 21.5” HD display, a 4hp motor that reaches speeds of 25km/h, and up to a 15% incline. The T10.5 requires a dedicated space and does not fold away. It is the perfect choice for those serious about their running progression.

Keeping your Resolutions

New Year’s Resolutions are notoriously difficult to keep. Whether you lack motivation, make little progress, or find it difficult to form a habit, there are several suggestions to help you stay on track. Tanita is the gold standard in body composition scales, and with its free app, it’s never been easier to track your improvements. We made a comparison blog to compare three of the most popular body composition scales from Tanita. Tanita uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to read body fat, muscle mass, bone density and much more, giving you an in-depth look at your body.

If motivation is an issue, fitness program apps such as Peloton and iFIT provide engaging and effective guides to keep you entertained as you train. NordicTrack Treadmills and Bikes, such as the NordicTrack X24 Exercise Bike, are perfect for this. They automatically adjust resistance levels to match the iFIT instructors on screen, giving you a unique, immersive workout experience.

Fitshop is dedicated to providing the best advice on fitness and equipment from industry experts. Next, we will interview former professional footballer and TV personality Mark Wright about his Fitshop-designed home gym. Stay tuned!
