INTRODUCING SINGLE STATIONS

Single stations are purpose-built exercise machines that tend to isolate themselves to one exercise, target muscle, or target muscle group. These machines tend to be most applicable to commercial and light-commercial gym spaces due to their space availability. That being said home gym builders looking for a specific tool for their training single-station machines are a fantastic choice for maximising your training potential.

TYPES OF SINGLE STATION MACHINES

Single stations, as mentioned, tend to focus on a single muscle or muscle group. Some machines, such as the Taurus Iso Series are plate-loading machines, whereas the Pro Series are stack-loading machines. In this guide, we will look at all the types of single-station machines by the muscle group they target.

SINGLE STATION ABS MACHINES

When it comes to getting abs of steel, gym clients will be looking for a way to make their abs explode. This is where single-station abs machines come in. The rectus abdominis muscle or our six-pack tends to be the target of abs machines such as the Life Fitness Insignia Series Abdominal Machine (pictured). Machines such as the Taurus Pro Ab & Back Extension Machine are dual-function, meaning you can adjust the machine to work your abs or back muscles.

SINGLE STATION ARMS MACHINES

Whether you're hitting biceps or triceps a single-station arms machine can be the perfect choice for overloading the muscles and achieving hypertrophy. Bicep machines such as the Taurus Elite Iso Bicep Curl Machine (pictured) work by isolating the bicep in a preacher curl-style exercise. This is highly effective as it uses the cushion to deactivate the tricep muscles, allowing you to focus solely on the biceps. The Taurus Iso Series are all Olympic plate-loading machines, making them highly accessible for users of all abilities, from new gym-goers to experienced athletes!

For stack-loaded machines, the Taurus Pro Bicep Curl & Tricep Machine is a perfect choice for small gym spaces and light-commercial use. Stack-loading machines are great for quick weight transitions without a workout partner and a great starting place for new gym-goers.

SINGLE STATION BACK MACHINES

Our back muscles are some of the most important in our bodies. The three main areas single-station machines tend to focus on are our upper back, erector spinae and the latissimus dorsi. The pictured Taurus Pro Lat Pulldown & Low Row Machine is a fantastic dual-function machine for the back, featuring a lat pulldown for the latissimus dorsi as well as the low row for the trapezius and rhomboid muscles.

For commercial gyms, machines such as the Taurus Elite Iso Low Row are a great way for gym members to hit their training goals. With a maximum weight capacity of 300kg, the machine is a reliable workhorse for even the most experienced gym goers.

SINGLE STATION CHEST MACHINES

Our pectorals are another large muscle group that is very popular in the gym. When we train the chest, we are usually referring to the pectoralis major and the pectoralis minor. To hit these muscles, we tend to see two types of machines, the chest press and the chest fly. Pictured, we have the Taurus Pro Iso Seated Chest Press, which is perfect for light-commercial settings and garage gyms. Each arm of the machine can hold up to 100kg of Olympic plates, making it suitable for users of all ability levels.

For chest fly machines, look no further than the Taurus Pro Chest Fly / Rear Delt Machine which comes with an 86kg weight stack, and dual-functionality, working both as a best fly and rear deltoid fly machine.

SINGLE STATION LEG MACHINES

Single Station Leg Machines are the hardest to categorise due to the wide variety of machines built to hit the huge amount of muscles in the legs in a variety of ways. Pictured is the Taurus Pro Iso Vertical Leg Press, which is perfect for light-commercial gym setups, PT studios and hotel gyms, giving members a unique and effective way to train their legs. The machine targets the glutes and quads and provides a huge range of movement, whilst only taking up a small space in the gym.

When we refer to "leg" machines, we include an array of muscles that can be targeted with specific exercises. Due to the huge range of machines, we will cover each muscle:

GLUTES

The glutes are our biggest muscles in the body and one of the most common training goals is people wanting to firm up their butt! Whilst squats and lunges are great compound exercises, if we wanted a bit more laser focus on our glutes, the Taurus Pro Vertical Hip Thrust is a perfect choice for home gyms and PT studios.

CALVES

Your calves are important for explosive movement, sprinting, and dexterity. There are many ways to train the calves, but the Taurus Pro Iso Leverage Squat/Calf is a fantastic choice for smaller gyms and garage gyms.

HIP FLEXORS

Hip flexors are one of the most overlooked muscles in the gym, whilst not considered an aesthetic muscle, adductors and abductors are essential to a strong groin and injury prevention. Here we have the Taurus Pro Iso Standing Hip Abductor, which is the perfect choice for light commercial gym spaces looking to give their members a new and interesting way to train their abductors.

QUADS

The big two, quads and hamstrings, are some of the most popular pieces of kit in all commercial gyms. Leg extension machines such as the Taurus Elite Plate Loading Iso Leg Extension is the perfect answer to busy gym environments looking to give their members the ultimate quad isolation machine. The machine can hold up to 150kg of weight on each of its weight pegs, giving even the heaviest lifters in the gym a run for their money.

HAMSTRINGS

Hamstring curl machines, much like the leg extension machines, are some of the busiest machines in the gym. Options such as the Taurus Pro Iso Prone Leg Curl are very popular in gyms, however, the option we have in the image is the Taurus Leg Extension and Curl Machine (5-In-1) capable of being used as a prone leg curl as well as a seated leg curl by utilising the easy adjustment system. The ideal choice for home gyms or light commercial settings with limited space.

SINGLE STATION SHOULDER MACHINES

Whether you're doing shoulder press or lateral raises, having a reliable machine is essential for your gym. Your shoulder muscles are some of the most complex muscle groups in the body and a common injury point. Strengthening your shoulders is essential for keeping your body healthy and injury-free.

Pictured is the fully commercial Taurus Elite Iso Shoulder Press Machine, which is perfect for high-quality gyms with heavy gym traffic. With a 300kg maximum weight capacity and built-in weight storage, the machine is perfect for gymgoers who are new to the gym, all the way up to your most experienced lifters.

For gyms looking for a lateral raise machine the Taurus Pro Iso Standing Lat Raise is the perfect choice for a light-commercial machine. Unlike standard lat raise machines, which take a seated position, the Standing Lat Raise is performed from a standing position and uses Olympic weight plates.

GYM FLOORING

Kitting out your gym with new equipment is an exciting time, but ensuring your gym environment is prepared for your new machine is often overlooked and can be difficult to correct after the kit is built. At Fitshop we recommend the Taurus Floor Tiles for their flexibility and range of shapes.

WEIGHT PLATES

Whilst many single stations are fitted with stack-loading selectorisers, much of the range is designed to be fitted with Olympic plates. Having a wide selection of plates gives your gym members plenty of challenges and options. Whilst there are many options and colour choices available, a great place to start is the Taurus Black Olympic Rubber Bumper Weight Plates
